Current employment status is also highly correlated with rates of illegal drug use. An estimated 17.1 percent of unemployed adults aged 18 or older were current illegal drug users in 2001 compared with 6.9 percent of those employed full time and 9.1 percent of those employed part time.

In North Dakota, an estimated 60% of the male prison population are meth users. 80- 90% of the female prison population were incarcerated for meth related offenses.
