Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
The company that produced Ambien, has purposely put into place a protective covering on the drug which is supposed to prevent the possibility of snorting, however, to a serious drug user this is not an obstacle.
In 2008, 23.1 million persons aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illegal drug or alcohol use problem (9.2 percent of the persons aged 12 or older). Of these, 2.3 million (0.9 percent of persons aged 12 or older and 9.9 percent of those who needed treatment) received treatment at a specialty facility. Thus, 20.8 million persons (8.3 percent of the population aged 12 or older) needed treatment for an illegal drug or alcohol use problem but did not receive treatment at a specialty substance abuse facility in the past year. These estimates are similar to the estimates for 2007 and for 2002.
Today, cocaine is a Schedule II drug, meaning that it has high potential for abuse but can be administered by a doctor for legitimate medical uses, such as local anesthesia for some eye, ear, and throat surgeries.
Crack is a highly addictive form of cocaine that is typically smoked. The term "crack" refers to the crackling sound heard when the substance is heated, presumably from the sodium bicarbonate that is used in the production of crack.
The goal of a quality drug rehab should be to help the individual through the process of detox and withdrawal from drugs or alcohol, so that they can be fully present to focus on the treatment portion of the program.
In 2005, among persons aged 12 or older, the rate of substance dependence or abuse was highest among American Indians or Alaska Natives (21.0 percent) and lowest among Asians (4.5 percent). Other racial/ethnic groups reported generally similar rates: Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders (11.0 percent), persons reporting two or more races (10.9 percent), whites (9.4 percent), Hispanics (9.3 percent), and blacks (8.5 percent). These rates were all similar to the rates seen in 2004.
