Methadone often takes over twenty hours to leave the body once it's been taken; because each person's body metabolized the drug differently, this could vary from person to person.

Among teens with past year dependence on or abuse of illegal drugs or alcohol, 21.7 percent had at least one MDE in the past year, higher than the 7.7 percent with MDE in the past year among adolescents with no past year dependence or abuse.

Based on a new approach to estimating incidence, the 2004 NSDUH shows that the illegal drug category with the largest number of new users was nonmedical use of pain relievers. 2.4 million persons used pain relievers nonmedically for the first time within the past 12 months. The average age at first use among these new initiates was 23.3 years.

The rate of past month tobacco use among teens aged 12 to 17 decreased from 12.4 percent in 2007 to 11.4 percent in 2008. This decrease was driven by a decline in the rate of past month cigarette use that was statistically significant (9.8 to 9.1 percent) and a decline in past month cigar use that was not statistically significant (4.2 to 3.8 percent). The rate of past month cigarette use among 12 to 17 year olds declined from 13.0 percent in 2002 to 9.1 percent in 2008. One-half million or 2.2 percent of teens aged 12 to 17 used smokeless tobacco in 2008 compared with 2.0 percent in 2002; this slight increase was not statistically significant.

In 2008, an estimated 15.0 percent of past year marijuana users aged 12 or older used marijuana on 300 or more days within the past 12 months. This translates into 3.9 million persons using marijuana on a daily or almost daily basis over a 12 month period. An estimated 35.7 percent (5.4 million) of past month marijuana users aged 12 or older used the drug on 20 or more days in the past month.
