There is no one particular form of drug rehab treatment that is appropriate for everyone. When an individual is seeking to get help for a drug or alcohol addiction, one must take into account the type of drug that was used and the unique needs of the individual.
In 2001, underage current alcohol use rates were similar in large metropolitan areas (27.3 percent), small metropolitan areas (29.8 percent), and nonmetropolitan areas (29.3 percent). The rate in nonmetropolitan rural areas was 27.5 percent.
Among teens aged 12 or 13, the rate of past month illegal drug use increased from 3.0 percent in 2000 to 3.8 percent in 2001, which was similar to the rate observed in 1999 (3.9 percent).
Use of heroin in pregnancy also may increase the risk of a variety of birth defects. What is not entirely clear is whether these effects are directly due to the drug itself or related to the poor health behaviors that women who take heroin often have.
