Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Some amphetamines users may behave in a bizarre, repetitive fashion. Many become hostile and aggressive.

Over half (51.0 percent) of teens aged 12 to 17 reported in 2005 that it would be "fairly easy" or "very easy" for them to obtain marijuana if they wanted some. Around one quarter reported it would be easy to get cocaine (24.9 percent) or crack (25.3 percent). One in seven (14.0 percent) indicated that heroin would be "fairly" or "very" easily available, and about one in six (15.7 percent) said it would be easy for them to get LSD if they wanted some.

Among people who needed but did not receive illegal drug use treatment and felt they needed treatment (based on 2004 2006 combined data), the six most often reported reasons for not receiving treatment were (a) no health coverage and could not afford cost (35.1 percent), (b) not ready to stop using (31.8 percent), (c) not knowing where to go for treatment (14.7 percent), (d) concern that getting treatment might cause neighbors/community to have negative opinion (13.5 percent), (e) possible negative effect on job (12.8 percent), and (f) being able to handle the problem without treatment (12.4 percent).

Some of the most major hazards of methadone addiction can include circulatory depression, respiratory arrest, shock, and cardiac arrest.

Individuals who have a substance abuse problem have a tendency to look at those around them to measure how right or wrong their actions are. Addicts are greatly in need of objective feedback concerning their behavior. It is through a non-judgmental, non-critical, intervention process that the individual is able to see the negative effects of their own lifestyle choices. When they truly begin to understand the impact that their addiction has on others, they can finally truly begin to see that they are hurting those around them.

Nationally in 2002.2003, about 3.0 percent of persons aged 12 or older were dependent on or had abused illegal drugs in the past year. The District of Columbia had the highest rate of past year illegal drug dependence or abuse (4.0 percent) among persons aged 12 or older, and Kansas had the lowest rate (2.5 percent). Most of the States in the highest fifth were in the West (four States) or the Northeast (four States). The highest rates for past year illegal drug dependence or abuse occurred in the 18 to 25 age group, with Rhode Island having the highest rate (12.7 percent).
