Alameda, California

Introduction to Alameda, California

The city of Alameda is situated in Alameda County, California, and is adjacent to the city of Oakland (less than 5 miles to the north). The name of the city was chosen by a popular vote conducted in 1853, and is Spanish for "grove of poplar trees". In 1916 Alameda became a "charter city", meaning that it is governed in accordance with its own city charter, as opposed to a "general law" city, which is governed principally by the laws of the state of California.

Alameda became an important shipping port in 1902 when excavation was done to create a tidal canal joining San Leandro Bay with the harbor of Oakland. World War II saw the establishment of the Naval Air Station Alameda, a sizable naval facility containing a large airfield and docks capable of accommodating several aircraft carriers. Although the Air Station closed in 1997, a massive hangar located there has in recent years been used to film special Computer-Generated Imagery scenes for several movies, including Bicentennial Man, Flubber, and Mission: Impossible II.

Things to do in the Alameda area

Alameda's proximity to the Bay affords spectators many beautiful views of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the San Francisco skyline. One of the more recent Alameda attractions is the aircraft carrier USS Hornet, now moored at the former Naval Air Station. The Hornet was used in World War II to launch a squadron of B-25s in the Tokyo raid conducted by General James Doolittle, an Alameda native.

Other Alameda attractions include: the Alameda Civic Light Opera, featuring Broadway-style musical productions; "Art In the Park", an annual event held in late summer which features art, poetry, music, and food; "Shining Stars In The Arts", held in May and honoring Alameda community members who have contributed to the city's art.

Many popular attractions can be found in nearby Oakland. These include: the Oakland Zoo, the Oakland California Temple, Preservation Park, Chabot Space and Science Center, the Christensen Heller Gallery, and the Alice Arts Center.

The city of San Francisco is a short 16-mile drive northwest on Interstate 880 and then west on I-80 across the Bay Bridge. Attractions abound in this city, including (to name just a few):

  • Golden Gate Park
  • Fisherman's Wharf
  • Japanese Tea Garden
  • San Francisco Zoo
  • Alcatraz
  • Chinatown
  • Cable Car Museum

Sports fans can choose from a wide selection of Bay Area teams, including:

  • NFL Football: Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49'ers
  • Arena Football League (AFL): San Jose SaberCats
  • Major League Baseball: Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants
  • Minor League Baseball: San Jose Giants (Single-A SF Giants farm team)

Are drugs and alcohol creating destruction in your life in Alameda, CA.? Do you know of someone in Alameda, CA. that is going down the dark path of drug or alcohol addiction? It is very easy for someone to fall into the trap of addiction, but an individual soon realizes that it is extremely difficult to kick an addiction. That is where an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehab Facility in Alameda comes in, to assist with the seemingly impossible task of treating individuals who have lost hope at ever being sober and happy again.

An Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facility in Alameda treats drug addiction and alcoholism by ingraining in an addict that drugs and alcohol are not the solution to their problems and difficulties in life. It teaches an addict that all of their problems have solutions, solutions that can be found through cognitive reasoning and common sense. A Drug Rehabilitation or Alcohol Rehab Program in Alameda would put the individual in the frame of mind to overcome life's obstacles by confronting them head on, and obliterates the person's desire to use drugs as a way out.

There are many different types of in-patient and out-patient treatment programs available in Alameda, CA., because each individual has different needs. Examples of programs available in Alameda are Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehabs, Short-term Addiction Treatment Centers, Inpatient Drug Rehabilitation Facilities, Long-term Drug Rehabilitation Programs, support group meetings, drug counseling, halfway houses and sober living.

Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers in Alameda have a two-prong approach to treatment, both the physical and psychological causes and effects of drug and alcohol addiction. As the individual's brain adapts to the use of a psychoactive substance over time, the effect that the drug creates within the body is lessened. Due to this physical tolerance, more and more drugs or alcohol must be consumed to get high or even get a buzz.

The physical aspect of addiction is the first thing an addict will address when making the decision to seek treatment for addiction. A detoxification program in Alameda, California delivered by a qualified Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Program will navigate the addict through the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that are caused by abruptly coming off of drugs or alcohol. These withdrawal symptoms can last for days, weeks or months; all depending on the drug of choice and individual circumstances. Heroin withdrawal for example will take a considerable amount of time to detox and is a highly painful and uncomfortable process. Detoxification and psychological counseling right from get-go will put the individual on the right path to address issues involved with drug and alcohol abuse. This gives the individual a better chance of having a lasting recovery and prevents relapse.

An Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Facility in Alameda, CA. takes the individual out of the environment which may have triggered their addiction, and offers an environment that will ensure a successful recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The individual will be given tools to better handle life situations and triggers which may have caused their drug use. When the individual completes treatment and does return home, he will do so with a new ability to handle triggers, which will no longer have an influence over him, his actions and behavior.

People who have abused drugs and alcohol shows changes in their brain. Research shows that these changes in the brain effect how an addict responds to situations. Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities are aware of this and know that an addict will need more than high hopes to beat addiction. This is yet another reason why professional treatment at an Alcohol Rehab or Drug Treatment Facility in Alameda, CA. is so important.

There are a lot of reasons to seek treatment today, mainly because most people who try to kick the habit on their own will fail and just start using drugs or alcohol again. Tackling addiction and getting control of your life can be achieved by seeking treatment at a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility in Alameda, CA. It doesn't have to be another failure, sobriety can be achieved with the right technology and the care and support of people who want to see you winning again. Don't think about it, do something about it and get your life or the life of someone you care about on the road to a sober and happy life today. Treatment can begin immediately by finding which option is best for you at one of the many Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Programs in Alameda, CA.
