Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
As of 2009, an estimated 760,000 people in the United States aged 12 or older used Ecstasy in the month prior to being surveyed.
Years of research have conclusively indicated to us that addictions to both prescription drugs and illegal drugs are the same in terms of providing drug recovery treatment However, no single type of drug rehab treatment is appropriate for all of the individuals that have developed an addiction to prescription drugs. The drug rehab treatment program must take into account the type of drug that has been abused and the needs of the individual.
Based on a state agency survey given to 176,000 high school students in the state of Texas, there were over 100,000 students that had the opportunity to use inhalants, but chose not to because of understanding the ramifications due to education.
Among full-time college students aged 18 to 22, there were increases from 2007 to 2008 in the current rate of use of hallucinogens (from 1.0 to 2.1 percent). Increases were seen for the specific hallucinogens Ecstasy (from 0.5 to 1.2 percent) and LSD (from 0.3 to 0.6 percent). There were no significant changes in the rates of current use for any drugs among persons aged 18 to 22 who were not full-time college students.
The rate of underage drinking remained the same in 2004 as in 2002 and 2003. About 10.8 million persons aged 12 to 20 reported drinking alcohol in the month prior to the survey interview in 2004 (28.7 percent of this age group). Of these, nearly 7.4 million (19.6 percent) were binge drinkers, and 2.4 million (6.3 percent) were heavy drinkers.
During the 1960's amphetamines were often prescribed by physicians for weight loss; although it was not long before this highly addictive drug was diverted to the illegal drug market.
