Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

It is not unusual for episodes of psychosis to persist for several days after the last dose of methamphetamine; there have been reported of users remaining in this state of paranoid delusion for weeks.

In 2008, an estimated 20.1 million Americans aged 12 or older were current (past month) illegal drug users, meaning they had used an illegal drug during the month prior to the survey interview. This estimate represents 8.0 percent of the population aged 12 years old or older. Illegal drugs include marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used nonmedically.

Among 12 to 17 year olds who had past year MDE in 2008, 37.4 percent had used illegal drugs during the same period, which was higher than the rate of 17.2 percent among teens who did not have past year MDE. This pattern was similar for most specific types of illegal drug use, including the use of marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogens, or inhalants and the nonmedical use of prescription-type psychotherapeutics.

Heroin users who inject the drug expose themselves to additional risks, including contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B and C, and other blood-borne viruses.

The number of sedatives initiates remained just under 100,000 per year between 1988 and 1994. In 1995, the number of initiates rose to 111,000 and continued increasing thereafter to 175,000 in 2000.

In rare instances, sudden death can occur on the first use of cocaine or unexpectedly thereafter. However, there is no way to determine who is prone to sudden death.
