Cupertino, California

Introduction to Cupertino, California

The suburban city of Cupertino is located in Northern California's Santa Clara County, about 10 miles west of San Jose and 45 miles southeast of San Francisco. Situated near the junction of Interstate I-280 and California State Highway 85, the city is also easily accessible to State Highway 17 and U.S. Route 101. Surrounding communities include Saratoga (to the south), Santa Clara (to the northeast), and Mountain View (to the northwest).

First known as West Side, the community acquired a new name in 1898 to distinguish it from other similarly named towns. The name Cupertino was chosen to match that of a local winery (which in turn had been named for a local creek), and for many years fruit agriculture was the community's primary industry. A post-World War II population boom led to Cupertino's incorporation in 1955, followed in the next decade by the opening of De Anza College and the following decade by the arrival of Apple Computer Corporation to the city. Still the headquarters of Apple, Cupertino today has since become home to many other high-technology electronics and computer firms and is sometimes referred to as the "heart" of Silicon Valley.

Events and Attractions in Cupertino

For outdoor recreation Cupertino offers more than 150 acres of parkland, and a variety of indoor recreation can be had at the Cupertino Sports Center. The city also hosts a number of annual events. The Annual Crab Feed, held each year in April at DeAnza College, is the city's largest community event and features a live auction along with all the crab you can eat. Another April event is the annual Cherry Blossom Festival which honors Cupertino's sister city of Toyokawa, Japan. The festival features a wide selection of Japanese food and beverages, live entertainment, cultural exhibits, and arts &crafts. The Lunar New Year Unity Parade, held every March, brings the city's broad spectrum of cultures together. The Moon Festival of Silicon Valley is a cultural fair that takes place in the Cupertino Memorial Park every September. The event is based on the traditional Chinese celebration of the full moon.

The different types of drug treatment in Cupertino, CA. can include holistic drug and alcohol rehabilitation, Short-term Drug Treatment Facilities, Long-term Addiction Recovery Programs, Outpatient Drug Treatment Centers, Inpatient Addiction Recovery Facilities, partial hospitalization, and sober living just to name a few. The type of Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Center that is needed will depend upon the degree of dependence, the individual's social situation, and the kind of substance which they have become addicted to.

The ultimate goal of all Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers should be to enable the individual from Cupertino, California to achieve lasting abstinence. Much research has indicated that in order for drug and alcohol addiction treatment to be effective, it must teach the individual how to change to their compulsive behaviors in order to remove the addiction and to be able to avoid a possible relapse. Overall, Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities need to address both the physical and psychological dependency of an addiction; the behavioral and social symptoms also need to be adequately addressed before an individual from Cupertino can have the tools that they will need to help sustain that recovery for the remainder of his or her life.

Drug detox is the first step in the Cupertino, CA. rehabilitation treatment process toward recovery from a drug and alcohol addiction. The main goal in this component of the Cupertino Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility is to rid the body of toxins that accumulate over the course of a long term drug or alcohol addiction. It is very common to see individuals from Cupertino, CA. in drug detox that has combined different drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or pain pills with alcohol.

When an individual from Cupertino has sustained the use of any of these various kinds of drugs, it causes adaptations within their body that lessen the drug's original effects over time; this is a phenomenon that is known as drug tolerance. At this point, the individual from Cupertino, California has developed a physical dependency on the substance and withdrawal symptoms will be experienced upon discontinuation. The reason that it is imperative that an individual from Cupertino have professional supervision during the detox process is because the staff at a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Center can help to make this process much easier by administering elements of treatment that can help to alleviate some of the painful withdrawal symptoms.

Once the early stages of withdrawal have passed, an individual from Cupertino will then be able to begin a directed, Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Program that will begin to address aspects of the psychological dependency by teaching behavioral skills that will help them to function without the use of alcohol or drugs. This component in drug recovery treatment will usually involve some type of individual or group counseling. There may also be occupational and behavioral therapies that are utilized as components of treatment in order to help to teach the individual from Cupertino, CA. life and social skills that may have been lost while they were under the influence of addiction.

Before an addict is finally willing to surrender to the Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Program process, they may have already made repeated promises to their loved ones in Cupertino who have been experiencing the negative effects from the individual's drug or alcohol abuse; because of the way that these substances chemically alter the person's brain, these empty promises cannot be fulfilled. If loved ones in Cupertino, California continue to believe these empty promises, it could possible mean that the addicted person will then have time to overdose on drugs or have a serious car accident while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Program, the individual from Cupertino will become educated about the ways that drugs and alcohol affect the various functions of the brain; they will learn that it was these physiological changes that made it almost impossible for them to stop using on their own, and not personal integrity. As an individual from Cupertino, CA. learns more about how to deal with drug triggers and as they master to the tools that they will need to use in order to stay sober when they return home to Cupertino, they will become confident in their ability to do so.
