Introduction to Lakewood, California

The city of Lakewood is a residential suburb located in Los Angeles County, California, and situated adjacent to Long Beach (11 miles to the southwest). It is also not far from the city of Anaheim (16 miles to the east) and downtown Los Angeles (about 24 miles to the northwest). Incorporated as a city in 1954, Lakewood grew rapidly during the 1950's, evolving into a well-developed city by 1960. Lakewood is predominantly owner-occupied, with the large majority of its housing comprised of single-family detached units. Approximately 150 acres of Lakewood's land mass is set aside for parks and other landscaped open space.

Lakewood is considered a pioneer in the realm of city services, as it was the first city in the nation to contract for all of its municipal services after incorporating in 1954. Most of these services are provided by Los Angeles County, with some furnished by other public agencies and the rest by private industry. Several other Los Angeles suburbs have since adopted this model.

Other interesting facts about Lakewood: It is the home of the first Denny's Restaurant, which originated in 1953 as Danny’s Donuts by founder Harold Butler and was renamed Denny's Restaurant in 1959. Also, Lakewood was named Sports Illustrated's "Sportstown USA" for the State of California in 2005.

The physical aspect of the drug or alcohol addiction can be treated by the detoxification component of the Lakewood, California Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Center; a treatment program will be able to assist the individual by helping to alleviate some of the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that accompany the detox process. The withdrawal symptoms occur because the brain has adapted to the consistent use of the substance; after a period of time, it will take more and more of the substance, in order to produce the same desired effects. It is at this point, that the individual from Lakewood has developed a physical tolerance to the drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana, opiates, and alcohol, just to name a few. When an individual from Lakewood, California abruptly discontinues any type of substance that their body has become accustomed to having, serious withdrawal symptoms may occur; the body may take several weeks or even months to return to normal functioning, depending on what types of drugs have been abused. If an individual from Lakewood has been addicted to a drug such as heroin, the associated withdrawal symptoms may be much more severe.

A Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Program in Lakewood also needs to address the various psychological issues that are invariably associated with a drug or alcohol addiction; a comprehensive recovery program will utilize various treatment techniques in order to accomplish this. These components of the Lakewood, California Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Program can include individual or group counseling, drug relapse prevention education and some form of aftercare treatment or follow up care. A top notch Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Facility in Lakewood will ultimately be equipped to administer a comprehensive treatment program that will help the individual in every single aspect of their daily lives.

In order for an individual from Lakewood to experience a successful drug recovery, they have to relearn many of the skills that they will use in their daily lives. They will need to use these skills daily, when they return home to Lakewood, California, where they will encounter some of the reminders and triggers from their drug using days. An Alcohol Rehab or Drug Treatment Program in Lakewood will have educated the recovering addict on how to successfully respond to these familiar triggers that can often produce a high amount of psychological stress.

Many individuals from Lakewood, CA. may try to overcome a drug or alcohol addiction without professional help. Because of the ways in which drugs alter the various functions in the brain, an individual from Lakewood with the strongest desire to overcome their drug or alcohol addiction on their own will only meet with failure. With all of the above mentioned challenges that are associated with overcoming a drug or alcohol addiction, it is no wonder that so many people from Lakewood each year enroll in an Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Center.
