The number of persons aged 12 or older who smoked cigarettes for the first time within the past 12 months was 2.2 million in 2007, which was significantly lower than the estimate in 2006 (2.4 million) but significantly higher than the estimate for 2002 (1.9 million). Most new smokers in 2007 were under age 18 when they first smoked cigarettes (59.7 percent).

Studies show that Ecstasy users suffer short-term and long-term verbal memory impairment, with 70?80% of ecstasy users displaying significantly impaired memory.

The intensity of withdrawal symptoms from Vicodin most often depends on the degree of the addiction. For example, the symptoms of withdrawal from Vicodin may grow stronger for twenty-four to seventy-two hours and then gradually decline over a period of seven to fourteen days.

Among persons aged 12 to 20, past month alcohol use rates were 18.6 percent among blacks, 19.7 percent among Asians, 25.3 percent among Hispanics, 27.5 percent among those reporting two or more races, 31.3 percent among American Indians or Alaska Natives, and 32.3 percent among whites.
