The term "amphetamine" refers to a group of chemically related stimulants.
Slightly more than half of Americans aged 12 or older reported being current drinkers of alcohol in the 2007 survey (51.1 percent). This translates to an estimated 126.8 million people, which was similar to the 2006 estimate of 125.3 million people (50.9 percent).

Rates of substance dependence or abuse were associated with current employment status in 2006. A higher percentage of unemployed adults aged 18 or older were classified with dependence or abuse (19.5 percent) than were full time employed adults (10.4 percent) or part time employed adults (10.2 percent).
In 2004, 2.1 million persons had used marijuana for the first time within the past 12 months. This estimate was not significantly different from the number in 2003 (2.0 million).
