Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
By binding to pain receptors, Vicodin eliminates or greatly reduces the experience of pain; due to the fact that pain is a survivor response, the body quickly adapts to the amount of the drug that is in the system and overrides it so that the individual will begin to feel pain again. The only way to fight this defense in the body is to take more of the drug, therefore developing a tolerance for it and ultimately becoming dependent on it.
State estimates for past year alcohol dependence or abuse among persons aged 12 or older ranged from 6.0 percent in Tennessee to 10.8 percent in North Dakota. In the 12 to 17 age group, the estimated percentage of those identified as having an alcohol abuse or dependence problem ranged from 3.0 percent in the District of Columbia to 11.2 percent in Montana.
