Among users of cocaine, 24.9 percent (1.0 million) were classified with dependence on or abuse of cocaine. Among past year users of marijuana, 16.5 percent (3.5 million) were classified with dependence on or abuse of marijuana. Among past year users of pain relievers, 11.8 percent (1.0 million) were classified with dependence on or abuse of pain relievers.
The rate of heroin lifetime heroin use is higher among those in prison (23.4 percent for State and 17.9 percent for Federal).
In 2008, rates of past 30 day SPD were higher among unemployed adults (10.2 percent) than among adults employed full time (3.3 percent), part time (4.4 percent), or other persons not in the labor force (6.1 percent).

Cigar smoking followed a similar pattern, with 10.4 percent of unemployed adults reporting past month use compared with 6.8 percent of full-time workers and 5.6 percent of part-time workers.
