Drug treatment methods that incorporate relapse prevention as a component of their drug treatment program, often times are backed by a solid recovery program. Relapse prevention is a critical part of the drug rehabilitation process because it will help the individual to maintain their sobriety once they have left the treatment facility.
Calls to poison control center regarding dangerous incidents concerning the use of bath salts have increased dramatically over the past several years.
Of the 7.0 million current users of illegal drugs other than marijuana, 4.8 million were current users of psychotherapeutic drugs. This represents 2.1 percent of the population aged 12 or older, which was higher than the rate observed in 2000 (1.7 percent). Of those who reported current use of any psychotherapeutics, 3.5 million used pain relievers, 1.4 million used tranquilizers, 1.0 million used stimulants, and 0.3 million used sedatives.
During 2011, a Time Magazine article reported that there were massive numbers of calls to poison control centers nationwide that were directly related to bath salts.
As in prior years, boys were more likely in 2005 to report current illegal drug use than girls (10.2 vs. 6.1 percent, respectively). Boys were about twice as likely to use marijuana as girls (8.2 vs. 4.0 percent). However, the rates of nonmedical use of prescription-type psychotherapeutics were similar for both boys (2.8 percent) and girls (2.5 percent).
Among older age groups, the prevalence of current alcohol use decreased with increasing age, from 67.4 percent among 26 to 29 year olds to 50.3 percent among 60 to 64 year olds and 39.7 percent among people aged 65 or older.
