Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
There are several important factors that are required of a person while they are in a drug rehab program. The first and most important is that they remain drug and alcohol free while in treatment.
People's perceptions of the risk of binge drinking were moderately related to their actual rates of binge drinking at the State level in 2002. Six of the States with the highest rates of binge use of alcohol in 2002 also were States with the lowest perceived risk of binge drinking for the population aged 12 or older. Five out of ten States with the lowest perceived risk were common to all three age groups (12 to 17, 18 to 25, and 26 or older) and for persons aged 12 or older: Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. The States in the highest fifth of rates of perceived risk (aged 12 or older) were either from the South (seven States) or the West (three States).
The rate of current illegal drug use among the population aged 12 or older in completely rural counties in 2006 (7.8 percent) was similar to that observed in 2002 (6.7 percent) and 2005 (5.1 percent) but higher than the rate in 2003 (3.1 percent) and 2004 (4.6 percent).
When a methamphetamine user builds a tolerance to the drug, they can either increase the dose that they consume or as enhancements such as bleach or drain cleaner to the drug.
Marijuana was the most commonly used illegal drug (14.6 million past month users). In 2005, it was used by 74.2 percent of current illegal drug users. Among current illegal drug users, 54.5 percent used only marijuana, 19.6 percent used marijuana and another illegal drug, and the remaining 25.8 percent used only an illegal drug other than marijuana in the past month.
The initiation rate (i.e., the percentage of nonsmokers who initiated cigarette use within the past 12 months) was 2.6 percent in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and it was 2.7 percent in 2005. Among teens aged 12 to 17 years, the incidence showed no significant changes during this period in that it was 6.7 percent in 2002, 6.6 percent in 2003, 6.8 percent in 2004, and 6.6 percent in 2005. This pattern was observed for both male and female teens.
