According to a study on addiction that was conducted by the government during 2000, over 50% percent of those individuals that were admitted for addiction to a drug rehab center were dependent on Vicodin.

The cultivation of opium in Afghanistan reached its peak in 1999, when 225,000 acres - 350 square miles - of poppies were sown.
