Persons who made no effort to receive treatment were more likely to report that they were not ready to stop using (45.3 percent) as a reason for not receiving treatment than persons who made an effort to receive treatment (21.1 percent) (2004-2005 combined data). Among adults aged 18 or older in 2008, past year prevalence of MDE with severe impairment was higher among unemployed persons (6.6 percent) than among persons employed full time (3.2 percent). Past year prevalence of MDE was 4.8 percent among persons employed part time and 5.7 percent among persons retired or otherwise not in the labor force.
In 2004, 6.0 million persons were current users of psychotherapeutic drugs taken nonmedically (2.5 percent).
