Bills pending in the Michigan state Legislature would make the possession of bath salt drugs and some of their stimulant components a felony in the state.

Among persons aged 12 or older in 2001, the rates for illegal drug or alcohol dependence or abuse were highest among American Indians/Alaska Natives (13.9 percent) and among persons reporting more than one race (12.6 percent). Asians and Native Hawaiians or other Pacific Islanders had the lowest rates for illegal drug or alcohol dependence or abuse (3.7 and 4.9 percent, respectively). Among whites, the rate was 7.5 percent, among blacks, 6.2 percent, and among Hispanics, 7.8 percent.

Treatment admissions for addiction to Meth doubled in the U.S. between 2000 and 2005.

Current illegal drug use rates remained stable from 2005 to 2006 among teens aged 12 to 17.
