As a result, it takes the human brain a significant amount of time to rebuild the store of serotonin needed to perform important physiological and psychological functions.
Between 2004 and 2005, there were no changes in the perceived risk of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or LSD use. However, since 2002, there have been increases in the perceived risk of smoking marijuana once a month (from 32.4 to 34.0 percent) and smoking marijuana once or twice a week (from 51.5 to 55.0 percent). On the other hand, the percentage of teens aged 12 to 17 who perceived that trying heroin once or twice is a great risk declined from 58.5 percent in 2002 to 56.5 percent in 2005, and those who perceived that using cocaine once a month is a great risk declined from 50.5 to 48.8 percent.
