Among adults aged 18 or older who had past year MDE in 2008, 71.0 percent received treatment (i.e., saw or talked to a medical doctor or other professional or used prescription medication) for depression in the same time period. The past year MDE treatment rate was highest among persons aged 50 or older (86.3 percent), followed by adults aged 26 to 49 (72.6 percent) and adults aged 18 to 25 (44.7 percent). Of all adults aged 18 or older who had past year MDE with severe impairment in 2008, 75.0 percent received treatment.

In the 18 to 25 age group, the rate of past month use of these drugs was highest in Rhode Island (13.4 percent); among teens, the rate was highest in Arizona (7.2 percent) (Table B.6). Only Colorado and Kentucky were in the top fifth in all three age groups and for all persons aged 12 or older.

Xanax and similar benzodiazepines enhance the action of brain receptors that inhibit central nervous system stimulation, which then inhibit the action of these receptors that stimulate the nervous system.

The number and the percentage of teens aged 12 to 17 who needed treatment for an illegal drug or alcohol use problem remained unchanged between 2005 and 2006 (2.1 million teens, and 8.3 percent of the population in 2005; 2.1 million teens, and 8.2 percent of the population in 2006). Of the 2.1 million persons in 2006, only 181,000 teens received treatment at a specialty facility (about 8.7 percent of teens who needed treatment), leaving 1.9 million teens who needed treatment for a substance use problem but did not receive it at a specialty facility.

According to the most recent studies that were conducted by the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN), fourteen of the top twenty most abused controlled substances in the United States, are reported to be prescription drugs. Benzodiazepines, such as Xanax rank highest on the list, and are closely followed by the opiates or painkillers.

The signs and symptoms of Lortab addiction may resemble other addictions. Distinguishing Lortab addiction from other conditions is quite challenging.
