Pleasure is such a powerful and magnetic type of force. Your brain is wired in such a way that if you do something that gives you pleasure you will more than likely want to do it again. Drug abuse is caused by the addictive nature of drugs that are consumed. The user chooses to re-create these pleasurable feelings again and again eventually will alter their brain pleasure circuit.

Counseling works by first helping the individual to recognize the existence of their substance abuse problem and the irrational thinking that is the hallmark of a drug addiction. Next, the individual needs to be encouraged to achieve and maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol use and then to begin to experience personal growth in order to continue working towards a complete long term recovery from drug or alcohol addiction.

Marijuana smokers have many of the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, and a heightened risk of lung infections.

Although there are no medications for treating marijuana abuse, drug treatment programs have shown efficacy in treating marijuana dependence.
