Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
In 2006, 31.7 percent of teens aged 12 to 17 reported that they had attended religious services 25 or more times in the past year; 77.0 percent expressed agreement with the statement that religious beliefs are a very important part of their lives; 68.3 percent agreed with the statement that religious beliefs influence how they make decisions in life; and 35.1 percent agreed with the statement that it is important for their friends to share their religious beliefs. Findings for these measures remained unchanged from 2005 to 2006. Lifetime, past year, and past month use of illegal drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol (including binge alcohol) were lower among teens who agreed with these statements than among those who disagreed. For example, past month illegal drug use was reported by 7.6 percent of those who agreed that religious beliefs are a very important part of life compared with 17.1 percent of those who disagreed with that statement.
The manufacture of a pound of meth creates 5-6 pounds of toxic waste. Minnesota drug officials closed down a meth lab in 2003 being operated in a ice-fishing shack. The cookers were dumping waste into the ice hole, poisoning the lake.
In 2006, adults aged 18 or older with MDE in the past year were more likely than those without MDE to have used an illegal drug in the past year (27.7 vs. 12.9 percent). A similar pattern was observed for specific types of past year illegal drug use, such as marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, and the nonmedical use of prescription type psychotherapeutics.
National Inhalant Prevention Coalition was formed to help bring awareness about inhalant abuse through educating the community about the dangers of "huffing".
As of 2009, lifetime Ecstasy use increased significantly among individuals aged 12 years or older, from 4.3 percent (10.2 million) in 2002 to 5.7 percent (14.2 million) in 2009
Among adults aged 26 or older, 5.9 percent were current illegal drug users in 2008. In this age group, 4.2 percent used marijuana, and 1.9 percent used prescription type drugs nonmedically. Less than 1 percent used cocaine (0.7 percent), hallucinogens (0.1 percent), heroin (0.1 percent), and inhalants (0.1 percent). The only significant change between 2007 and 2008 in the rates of past month use among adults in this age group involved crack, which decreased from 0.3 to 0.2 percent. In addition, the rates of past year nonmedical use declined for psychotherapeutic drugs overall (from 4.9 percent in 2007 to 4.4 percent in 2008), sedatives (from 0.3 to 0.2 percent), and methamphetamine (from 0.4 to 0.3 percent). However, increases occurred in lifetime use of hallucinogens (from 14.2 percent in 2007 to 15.2 percent in 2008) and lifetime nonmedical use of pain relievers (from 11.8 to 12.7 percent).
