Between 2000 and 2001, the rate of past month illegal drug use increased among both men (from 7.7 to 8.7 percent) and women (from 5.0 to 5.5 percent) aged 12 or older.

In the United States rates of addiction as related to drugs and alcohol are on the rise. Over the past decade, the number of people that are living with a substance abuse problem has steadily risen.

In 2005, there were 877,000 persons aged 12 or older who had used inhalants for the first time within the past 12 months; 72.3 percent were under age 18 when they first used. There was no significant change in the number of inhalant initiates from 2002 to 2005.

In 2005, teens who had MDE during the past year were more likely to report daily cigarette use in comparison with those who did not have MDE during the past year (5.3 vs. 2.5 percent).

A common misconception is that you see pink horses and cows when tripping on LSD. This may not be true, but an individual using the drug may see trails and dots and sometimes lines in lots of different hues.

Marijuana was the most commonly used illegal drug (14.8 million past month users). In 2006, marijuana was used by 72.8 percent of current illegal drug users and was the only drug used by 52.8 percent of them. Illegal drugs other than marijuana were used by 9.6 million persons or 47.2 percent of illegal drug users aged 12 or older. Current use of other drugs but not marijuana was reported by 27.2 percent of illegal drug users, and 20.0 percent used both marijuana and other drugs.
