All drugs that are abused either directly or indirectly target the brain's reward system by flooding the circuit with dopamine. The overstimulation of this system of the brain, which rewards our natural behaviors, will produce the euphoric effects that are sought by people who abuse drugs and teach these individuals to repeat the behavior.
Men were less likely than women to receive outpatient treatment (4.8 vs. 8.4 percent) and prescription medication (7.2 vs. 14.2 percent) for mental health problems in the past year. There was no significant gender difference in inpatient treatment (0.8 vs. 0.7 percent).
In the United States, methadone clinics were set up during the Nixon administration in order to combat heroin use. In addition to obtaining a daily methadone dose, individuals that would go to a Methadone Maintenance Clinic for addiction treatment would receive some type of psychological counseling for their substance abuse problem.

"Smoking" methamphetamine actually refers to vaporizing it to produce fumes, rather than burning and inhaling the resulting smoke, as with tobacco. It is commonly smoked in glass pipes made from blown Pyrex tubes, light bulbs, or on aluminum foil heated by a flame underneath. This method is also known as "chasing the white dragon".
