The causes of drug addiction are many, but several key areas can often be pinpointed. Drugs and alcohol have been known to be used in order to attempt to kill the pain of ordinary life; they destroy the physical and emotional pain by changing an addict?s perception on life. Drugs and alcohol use does not really change anything; the only thing that occurs is that the use of drugs or alcohol makes the addict become numb to the pain and unhappiness that is a part of their lives.

Rates of current alcohol use and binge use for full time college students decreased from 2007, when they were 63.7 and 43.6 percent, respectively.
