Within the last ten years, there has been much media attention given to the abuse of Xanax; the primary abuse of the drug has been well documented.
Heroin can be injected into a vein (?mainlining?), injected into a muscle, smoked in a water pipe or standard pipe, mixed in a marijuana joint or regular cigarette, inhaled as smoke through a straw, known as ?chasing the dragon,? snorted as powder via the nose.
When an individual is between treated at a Methadone Maintenance Clinic, they can get along without heroin without getting "dope sick." The irony is that is they would discontinue their Methadone use; they would rapidly descend into a withdrawal that is more painful than if they would have chosen to withdraw from the original opiate addiction.
In 2008, during their most recent treatment in the past year, 2.7 million persons aged 12 or older reported receiving treatment for alcohol use, and 947,000 persons reported receiving treatment for marijuana use. (Note that respondents could indicate that they received treatment for more than one substance during their most recent treatment.)
In 2008, the number of new nonmedical users of OxyContin aged 12 or older was 478,000, with an average age at first use of 21.8 years among those aged 12 to 49.
