Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
Some addicts do abuse Methadone and experience similar effects as if they were using other opiates, albeit not to the same extent.
In 2005, there were 2.1 million teens aged 12 to 17 (8.3 percent of this population) who needed treatment for an illegal drug or alcohol use problem. Of this group, only 181,000 teens received treatment at a specialty facility (8.6 percent of teens who needed treatment), leaving 1.9 million teens who needed treatment for a substance use problem but did not receive it at a specialty facility.
The most common way of getting addicts into a drug rehab treatment center is by holding a drug intervention. An intervention is when the family and close friends of the addict gather together to address the addiction problem. Often, a trained professional is on hand to help guide the intervention and make sure that it does not take a negative turn and results in the addict entering a drug treatment program.
Attending a quality drug rehab addiction treatment will support the recovering addict as they begin to make healthy lifestyle changes, manage feelings and develop coping tools and drug refusal skills. In addition, the individual will learn to identify many of the relapse warning signs and challenge thoughts that may lead to a drug relapse.
NSDUH includes questions for nonmedical users of prescription-type psychotherapeutic drugs regarding how they obtained the drugs they recently used nonmedically. In 2005, the most prevalent source from which recently used drugs were obtained among nonmedical users of prescription-type drugs was "from a friend or relative for free."
Among young adults aged 18 to 25 years, the rate of past month any illegal drug use increased between 2000 and 2001, rising from 15.9 to 18.8 percent. Increases were evident for current use of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, pain relievers, tranquilizers, stimulants, and methamphetamine.
