Various combinations of over-the-counter stimulants are often misrepresented as "speed" or are sold in capsules that resemble those of legally manufactured amphetamines; these are called "look-alike" stimulants. Deaths due to stroke have been reported following massive doses of look-alike combinations.
Among teens with past year dependence on or abuse of illegal drugs or alcohol, 21.7 percent had at least one MDE in the past year, higher than the 7.7 percent with MDE in the past year among adolescents with no past year dependence or abuse.
As of 15 years ago, over three quarters of all heroin users took the drug by injecting it. Today that number has shrunk to 65% as the number of individuals snorting heroin has grown.
By stimulating the internal reward system in the user?s brain, the use of drugs and alcohol will make the addict crave the substance repetitively in order to again stimulate this reward center.
