A serious problem with methadone prescriptions concerning individuals that were being treated at clinics in the past was that patients were given enough methadone to last one week - or even up to one month. As a result of this previous practice, methadone addicts commonly sold their excess prescribed methadone on the street in the illegal drug market.

Dilaudid is an analgesic narcotic with an addiction liability similar to that of morphine. It can be apparent in less than 15 minutes and remains in effect for more than 6 hours.

Heroin users who inject the drug expose themselves to additional risks, including contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B and C, and other blood-borne viruses.

In 2005, 55.0 percent of teens indicated a great risk in smoking marijuana once or twice a week, and 34.0 percent perceived a great risk in smoking marijuana once a month. There was no change in the perceived risk of using marijuana in either of these frequencies among teens between 2004 and 2005. Looking over a 4-year period, the perceived risk of marijuana use increased for these two measures between 2002 and 2003 and remained stable from 2003 through 2005. Between 2002 and 2005, marijuana use among teens decreased overall, although not all decreases between years were statistically significant. The prevalence of lifetime marijuana use decreased between 2002 and 2003, while the prevalence of lifetime, past year, and past month marijuana use decreased between 2004 and 2005. From 2002 to 2005, lifetime use of marijuana dropped from 20.6 to 17.4 percent, past year use declined from 15.8 to 13.3 percent, and past month use fell from 8.2 to 6.8 percent.

Among underage current drinkers in 2008, 30.8 percent paid for the alcohol the last time they drank, including 8.3 percent who purchased the alcohol themselves and 22.3 percent who gave money to someone else to purchase it.
