Current employment status was associated with illegal drug use in 2005. Among unemployed adults aged 18 or older, 17.1 percent were current illegal drug users, which was higher than the 8.2 percent of those employed full time and 10.4 percent of those employed part time. These rates were all similar to the corresponding rates in 2004.
Women are up to three times more likely than men to be prescribed drugs such as Percocet; they are also twice as likely to form a Percocet addiction. The reason that women are more likely to have problems with Percocet is mainly due to the fact that women are more likely to seek medical attention for pain.
In the college-aged population (i.e., those aged 18 to 22 years old), the rate of current illegal drug use was nearly the same among full-time undergraduate college students (20.6 percent) as for other persons aged 18 to 22 years, including part-time students, students in other grades, or nonstudents (21.7 percent).
