Smokeless tobacco use and cigar use also were more prevalent among heavy drinkers (11.9 and 19.2 percent, respectively) than among non-binge drinkers (1.9 and 5.0 percent) and nondrinkers (1.9 and 2.2 percent).
Rates for illegal drug or alcohol dependence or abuse show substantial variation by age.
