SPD in the past year was associated with past year substance dependence or abuse in 2005. Among adults with SPD in 2005, 21.3 percent (5.2 million) were dependent on or abused illegal drugs or alcohol. The rate among adults without SPD was 7.7 percent (14.9 million).
Sobriety means the moderation in or abstinence from the consumption of alcohol or drugs. When an individual with an addiction problem enters a drug rehab treatment program, their main goal should be to attain long term sobriety, and to make amends to the individuals that they hurt during active addiction.
