In 2005, the number of persons aged 12 or older needing treatment for an illegal drug or alcohol use problem was 23.2 million (9.5 percent of the population aged 12 or older). The rates were 47.1 percent for persons reporting two or more races, 41.8 percent for Hispanics, 40.0 percent for blacks, 37.2 percent for American Indians or Alaska Natives, 36.7 percent for Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders, and 35.4 percent for Asians.
