In the 18 to 25 age group, the rate of past month use of these drugs was highest in Rhode Island (13.4 percent); among teens, the rate was highest in Arizona (7.2 percent) (Table B.6). Only Colorado and Kentucky were in the top fifth in all three age groups and for all persons aged 12 or older.
As of 1999 thirteen states had treatment admission rates for amphetamine abuse of at least 55 per 100,000, and eight of these had rates of 100 per 100,000 or more.
Effects produced by opiates, such as morphine, are pleasure (or reward) and pain relief.
In 2008, 57.7 percent of boys aged 12 or older were current drinkers, higher than the rate for girls (45.9 percent). However, among teens aged 12 to 17, the percentage of boys who were current drinkers (14.2 percent) was similar to the rate for girls (15.0 percent).
Drug and alcohol counseling that is administered within the context of a comprehensive treatment program will generally consists of four different components: Assessing the level of drug or alcohol usage and the rate of potential for addiction.
