Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the United States. It is a dry, shredded green and brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves derived from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. The main active chemical in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol; THC for short.

Among pregnant women aged 15 to 44 years, 3.9 percent reported using illegal drugs in the past month based on combined 2004 and 2005 NSDUH data. This rate was significantly lower than the rate among women aged 15 to 44 who were not pregnant (9.9 percent). The 2002 2003 combined rate of current illegal drug use among pregnant women (4.3 percent) was not significantly different from the 2004 2005 combined rate.

Ecstasy users may take combinations of drugs, including alcohol, which may further increase the negative effects of the drug or even death.

In 2007, an estimated 19.9 million Americans aged 12 or older were current (past month) illegal drug users, meaning they had used an illegal drug during the month prior to the survey interview. This estimate represents 8.0 percent of the population aged 12 years old or older. Illegal drugs include marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used nonmedically.

Most (63.3 percent) of the 2.1 million recent marijuana initiates were younger than age 18 when they first used. Among teens aged 12 to 17, an estimated 4.7 percent had used marijuana for the first time within the past year, similar to the rate in 2005 (4.5 percent).

Prolonged use of Xanax and other similar type benzodiazepines can lead to physical drug dependence, even when it is taken at the prescribed doses.
