Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

An individual addicted to opiates cannot control how much opiates they take, even though it may cause harmful effects on their life and their health.

In chronic marijuana users, research shows that marijuana's adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.

Nationally in 2002.2003, 7.6 percent of the population aged 12 or older were classified with dependence on or abuse of alcohol in the past year. Persons aged 18 to 25 had the highest rate of alcohol dependence or abuse (17.4 percent) in the Nation (Table B.14).

Ecstasy is said to increase awareness and feelings of pleasure and to give people energy.

A majority of teens aged 12 to 17 (90.8 percent) in 2008 reported that their parents would strongly disapprove of their trying marijuana or hashish once or twice. Current marijuana use was much less prevalent among teens who perceived strong parental disapproval for trying marijuana or hashish once or twice than for those who did not (4.3 vs. 29.8 percent).

Our brains are wired in a way that ensures that we will repeat activities by associating them with pleasure or reward. Whenever this reward circuit is activated, the brain notes that something important is happening that needs to be remembered; this process in the brain is what strongly reinforces us to repeat the behavior again and again, without even consciously thinking about it. Because drugs of abuse stimulate this same reward circuit within the brain, drug use can easily become a repetitive unconscious act.
