Manhattan, KansasIntroduction to Manhattan, Kansas
Located in the scenic Flint Hills of northeastern Kansas at the junction of the Big Blue and Kansas rivers is the city of Manhattan, county seat of Riley County. Known as the "Little Apple" (in deference to its larger namesake in New York), Manhattan is situated 56 miles west of Topeka, 85 miles west of Lawrence, and 120 miles west of Kansas City. The city is notable for being the home of both Kansas State University and the Fort Riley Army Base. Also located here are Manhattan Area Technical College and Manhattan Christian College.
First settled in 1855 by settlers from the Northeast, Manhattan was incorporated in 1857, just four years prior to the State of Kansas being admitted into the Union. At that time, local citizens began a lobbying effort to try to get a state university established in the city. In 1863, these efforts came to fruition when the Kansas legislature established Kansas State Agricultural College in Manhattan. In later years, the name of the institution was changed to Kansas State University.

For sports fans, Manhattan offers collegiate athletics at its finest. The Kansas State University Wildcats field NCAA Division 1A teams in several different sports and since 1997 have competed in the Big 12 Conference. In prior years, the University has belonged to the Missouri Valley Conference (1913 to 1928), the Big Six Conference (1928 to 1947), the Big Seven Conference (1947 to 1958), and the Big Eight Conference (1958 to 1996). During that time span, Wildcat teams have racked up over 50 Conference Championships.
Professional sports fans willing to get on Interstate 70 to take the two-hour drive east to Kansas City (Missouri) will be rewarded with plenty of major league action. Teams located in Kansas City include baseball's Kansas City Royals (MLB), football's Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), and soccer's Kansas City Wizards (MLS). All three teams play their games at the Truman Sports Complex, situated about 10 miles from the Kansas-Missouri state line.
Auto racing fans can avoid crossing the Missouri border and instead take the slightly shorter drive east to the "other" Kansas City (Kansas City, Kansas), where the Kansas Speedway hosts races from several major circuits. Fans taking an even shorter drive (about an hour) to Topeka can watch National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing events which take place at Heartland Park Topeka.

Do you have a problem with drug or alcohol addiction and live in Manhattan, Kansas? Are you concerned about a family member in Manhattan, who has a problem like this? Whatever your situation it's easy to believe that you're alone with this . . . that, somehow, you have to solve the problem all on your own. That is not the case. We care about you - and will help you find an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Program in Manhattan, suited to your specific treatment needs. You don't have to deal with drug addiction or alcoholism on your own!
A Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Center in Manhattan, is a good option for the treatment of drug addiction and alcoholism. The goal of an Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Program in Manhattan, KS. is to direct the initial treatment plan toward the ability of the individual to stop using drugs and/or alcohol and hence avoid the psychological, legal, financial, social, and physical consequences that are usually associated with drug addiction and alcoholism.
There are many different addiction treatment approaches such as Long-term Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs, Outpatient Drug Rehabilitation Programs, Short-term Drug Rehabilitation Programs, Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities, support group meetings, drug counseling, halfway houses and sober living.
Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers in Manhattan, typically focus on the two-fold nature of drug addiction and alcoholism: physical and psychological addiction. Physical addiction can be treated by a detoxification program in Manhattan, Kansas with treatment procedure to assist with the painful withdrawal symptoms which manifest themselves when a person discontinues the consumption of a drug or drugs that they are addicted to. With habitual use of a psychoactive substance the brain gradually adapts to the presence of the drug so the desired effect becomes minimal. This is how physical tolerance develops to drugs such as heroin, amphetamines, cocaine, nicotine and alcohol to name a few. It also explains why more and more of the drug is needed to get the same effect with habitual use of an addictive drug. The abrupt cessation of an addictive drug can lead to serious withdrawal symptoms where the body may take weeks or months (depending on the drug involved) to return to normal function. The withdrawal symptoms from certain substances, such as heroin, can induce severe and painful withdrawal symptoms, and be quite prolonged.
A Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Program in Manhattan, will not only provide the person with a professional detox but also provide a Drug Rehabilitation or Alcohol Treatment Facility for the psychological issues inevitably underlying all drug and alcohol addiction problems, so as to decrease the chances of relapse and increase the chances of a clean and sober life.
A Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Manhattan, KS. is more likely to be one of the most successful methods for treating an individual with a severe drug addiction problem. Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities in Manhattan, are designed to deliver a comprehensive treatment curriculum and assist a person in every facet of their life 24 hours a day.
For a person to make a successful recovery, they must acquire new knowledge, abilities and 'life skills'. This new knowledge, abilities and life skills must be directed toward strategies for returning home to Manhattan, from an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Facility and encountering old drug using acquaintances in Manhattan - as well as ways to handle the many reminders and triggers of their past drug using days in Manhattan. These triggers can produce memories which can produce psychological stressors. These psychological stressors often hinder the recovering addict, making it very difficult for them to feel as though they have control over their actions concerning drug using impulses. This is because research into the brain of addicts shows changes in the way their brain functions long after they have discontinued using drugs and/or alcohol. This is the main reason why even an individual with will power as strong as steel may find it extremely difficult to overcome drug addiction or alcoholism without professional addiction treatment. With so many obstacles such as triggers, drug cravings, and changes in the way their brain functions due to habitual drug use, it is no surprise why so many people attend an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehabilitation Center each year to successfully recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
There are many reasons why a person should enroll into a Drug Rehabilitation or Alcohol Treatment Program in Manhattan. A few of the many reasons are: the inability to control or eliminate their drinking or drug use, alienating their friends and family, legal problems, severe depression and general unhappiness due to excessive drug or alcohol use.
