Rates of past month illegal drug use varied with age. Through the adolescent years from 12 to 17, the rates of current illegal drug use increased from 3.9 percent at ages 12 or 13 to 9.1 percent at ages 14 or 15 to 16.0 percent at ages 16 or 17.
