The high from inhalants is caused by the lack of oxygen that reaches the brain when an individual inhales the fumes or uses a propellant to get high; this term is also referred to as "huffing".

In 2006, among past year marijuana users aged 12 or older, 12.3 percent used marijuana on 300 or more days within the past 12 months. This translates into 3.1 million using marijuana on a daily or almost daily basis over a 12 month period, similar to the estimate in 2005. Among past month marijuana users aged 12 or older, 34.4 percent (5.1 million) used the drug on 20 or more days in the past month.

Among teens with past year dependence on or abuse of illegal drugs or alcohol, 21.7 percent had at least one MDE in the past year, higher than the 7.7 percent with MDE in the past year among adolescents with no past year dependence or abuse.

Many heroin addicts prefer the high that they get from combining Methadone with heroin because the drug drastically increases the euphoric effects of heroin. This, of course, is a deadly combination and many have died from drug overdoses trying to reach this ?ultimate high?.
