The number of Methadone overdoses has greatly increased in the United States within the past several years. During 2005, almost 4,000 people died from an overdose of the potent opiate.

In 2008, among persons aged 12 or older, the rate of substance dependence or abuse was the lowest among Asians (4.2 percent). Racial/ethnic groups with similar rates included American Indians or Alaska Natives (11.1 percent), persons reporting two or more races (9.8 percent), whites (9.0 percent), blacks (8.8 percent), and Hispanics (9.5 percent). These rates in 2008 were similar to the rates in 2002 through 2007.

When an individual is experiencing methamphetamine-induced psychosis, they may believe that other people are talking about them of following them; this state can be extremely dangerous and can result in incidents of extreme violence.
