Principal highways servicing the city include Massachusetts State Highways 1A, 107 and 129, although the city is also adjacent to Interstate I-95 and U.S. Route 1. - The nation's first jet airplane engine was built at Lynns General Electric plant in 1942.
- Lynn astronomer Maria Mitchell was the first woman inducted into the Academy of Arts and Sciences.
