The different types of drug treatment in Worcester, MA. can include holistic drug and alcohol rehabilitation, Short-term Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers, Long-term Addiction Recovery Facilities, Outpatient Addiction Recovery Programs, Inpatient Drug Rehabs, partial hospitalization, and sober living just to name a few. The type of Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Program that is needed will depend upon the degree of dependence, the individual's social situation, and the kind of substance which they have become addicted to.

The ultimate goal of all Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers should be to enable the individual from Worcester, Massachusetts to achieve lasting abstinence. Much research has indicated that in order for drug and alcohol addiction treatment to be effective, it must teach the individual how to change to their compulsive behaviors in order to remove the addiction and to be able to avoid a possible relapse. Overall, Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities need to address both the physical and psychological dependency of an addiction; the behavioral and social symptoms also need to be adequately addressed before an individual from Worcester can have the tools that they will need to help sustain that recovery for the remainder of his or her life.

Drug detox is the first step in the Worcester, MA. rehabilitation treatment process toward recovery from a drug and alcohol addiction. The main goal in this component of the Worcester Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Facility is to rid the body of toxins that accumulate over the course of a long term drug or alcohol addiction. It is very common to see individuals from Worcester, MA. in drug detox that has combined different drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or pain pills with alcohol.

When an individual from Worcester has sustained the use of any of these various kinds of drugs, it causes adaptations within their body that lessen the drug's original effects over time; this is a phenomenon that is known as drug tolerance. At this point, the individual from Worcester, Massachusetts has developed a physical dependency on the substance and withdrawal symptoms will be experienced upon discontinuation. The reason that it is imperative that an individual from Worcester have professional supervision during the detox process is because the staff at a Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehabilitation Center can help to make this process much easier by administering elements of treatment that can help to alleviate some of the painful withdrawal symptoms.

Once the early stages of withdrawal have passed, an individual from Worcester will then be able to begin a directed, Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Center that will begin to address aspects of the psychological dependency by teaching behavioral skills that will help them to function without the use of alcohol or drugs. This component in drug recovery treatment will usually involve some type of individual or group counseling. There may also be occupational and behavioral therapies that are utilized as components of treatment in order to help to teach the individual from Worcester, MA. life and social skills that may have been lost while they were under the influence of addiction.

Before an addict is finally willing to surrender to the Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehab Facility process, they may have already made repeated promises to their loved ones in Worcester who have been experiencing the negative effects from the individual's drug or alcohol abuse; because of the way that these substances chemically alter the person's brain, these empty promises cannot be fulfilled. If loved ones in Worcester, Massachusetts continue to believe these empty promises, it could possible mean that the addicted person will then have time to overdose on drugs or have a serious car accident while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Center, the individual from Worcester will become educated about the ways that drugs and alcohol affect the various functions of the brain; they will learn that it was these physiological changes that made it almost impossible for them to stop using on their own, and not personal integrity. As an individual from Worcester, MA. learns more about how to deal with drug triggers and as they master to the tools that they will need to use in order to stay sober when they return home to Worcester, they will become confident in their ability to do so.

Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Use of tobacco products other than cigarettes was higher among current cigarette smokers than among current nonsmokers. Smokeless tobacco use in the past month was reported by 5.0 percent of current cigarette smokers compared with 2.8 percent of nonsmokers. Moreover, 12.5 percent of current cigarette smokers also smoked cigars in the past month compared with 3.3 percent of those who did not smoke cigarettes, and 2.1 percent of current cigarette smokers also used pipes in the past month compared with 0.6 percent of those who did not smoke cigarettes.

Abrupt interruption of chronic methamphetamine use results in the withdrawal syndrome in almost 90% of the cases. Withdrawal of amphetamine often causes a depression which is longer and deeper than even the depression from cocaine withdrawal.

Diuretics such as alcohol exacerbate risks associated with using Ecstasy.

Among full time college students aged 18 to 22, there were increases from 2007 to 2008 in the current rate of use of hallucinogens (from 1.0 to 2.1 percent). Increases were seen for the specific hallucinogens Ecstasy (from 0.5 to 1.2 percent) and LSD (from 0.3 to 0.6 percent). There were no significant changes in the rates of current use for any drugs among persons aged 18 to 22 who were not full time college students.

The effects of methamphetamine, although initially similar to cocaine, last much longer than the effects of cocaine; yet both of these drugs are known to cost the same. Perhaps this is the reason that methamphetamine is often called the "poor man's cocaine".

Major heroin withdrawal symptoms peak between 48 and 72 hours after the last heroin dose and subside after about a week.
