Interesting Facts and Statistics:

The National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA) research strongly indicates that comprehensive drug and alcohol abuse prevention programs which involve the addict's loved ones are very effective in reducing drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.

Rates of substance dependence or abuse were associated with level of education in 2008. Among adults aged 18 or older, those who graduated from a college or university had a lower rate of dependence or abuse (7.0 percent) than those who graduated from high school (9.4 percent), those who did not graduate from high school (9.5 percent), and those with some college (10.5 percent).

In another study, of those high school students surveyed in 2001 as part of the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, 3.1% reported using heroin at least once during their lifetime. Male students (3.8%) were more likely than female students (2.5%) to report lifetime heroin use.

Percocet withdrawal symptoms can often begin in as little as six to eight hours after taking the last dosage.

The definition for drug addiction is a condition where a person takes a drug every day, despite harm to themselves.

The rate of illegal drug use in the past year was higher among teens aged 12 to 17 who received mental health treatment or counseling in the past year than among those who did not receive treatment or counseling (28.8 vs. 17.0 percent, respectively).
