Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
Due to its extremely high potential for abuse, methamphetamine has been classified as a Schedule II drug that legally can only be prescribed by a medical provider and cannot be refilled.
The very thought of not using may make some individuals panic stricken. They may have abused one prescription drug or another for such a long period of time that being intoxicated feels quite natural, or they may fear the discomfort of withdrawal.
Some female users may take Ecstasy when they are pregnant, either inadvertently or intentionally, because of the misperception that it is a safe drug. Younger brains may have an increased susceptibility to the neurotoxic effects of Ecstasy, making a fetus particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of the drug on the brain.
In 2005, past month use of any illegal drug, cigarettes, and alcohol was lower among teens aged 12 to 17 who reported that their parents always or sometimes engaged in monitoring behaviors than among teens whose parents "seldom" or "never" engaged in such behaviors. For example, the rate of past month use of any illegal drug was 8.1 percent for teens whose parents always or sometimes helped with homework compared with 17.4 percent among teens who indicated that their parents seldom or never helped. Rates for current cigarette smoking were 9.3 and 17.7 percent for the two groups of teens, respectively, and rates of past month alcohol use were 14.5 versus 27.2 percent.
Adderall, an amphetamine mixture, is used by some college and high-school students as a study and test-taking aid.
Ecstasy users can become dehydrated through vigorous activity in a hot environment.
