Reno, Nevada

Introduction to Reno

Reno, Nevada is known as the “Biggest Little City in the World” and is famous for its casinos and for being the birthplace of Harrah’s Entertainment, one of the largest gaming corporations in the world. It is also the headquarters for International Game Technology, which is responsible for manufacturing a majority of the world’s slot machines. Reno has a population of 180,000, making it the third largest city in Nevada. European pioneers settled in Reno in the 1850s, and the discovery of silver in the area led to a boom of epic proportions. The mining boom declined in the early 20th century, and casino gambling was legalized in 1931.

Reno Culture

Despite its reputation as a casino haven, Reno also has a thriving arts community. The Nevada Museum of Art allows visitors to engage and enjoy a range of art, and the Art District in downtown Reno has a wide array of coffeehouses, galleries, shops, and restaurants. Stremmel Gallery houses the area’s best in contemporary paintings, drawings, mixed media, and sculpture. Ancient rock art sites and walking tours provided by the Historic Reno Preservation Society capture the spirit of the West that is still embodied in contemporary Reno culture. The award-winning Nothing To It Culinary Center offers cooking classes and other hands-on culinary adventures. Reno’s performing arts companies include the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Reno Chamber Orchestra, the Nevada Opera, the Broadway Comes to Reno series, and many community theaters.

Reno Sports and Leisure

Reno has a large number of gyms and fitness facilities where members can enjoy basketball, racquetball, swimming, or consulting with a personal trainer. Golf is huge here, and Reno has world-class courses like PGA Tour host Montreux Golf and Country Club. Reno has the National Bowling Stadium, which is a destination for any bowling enthusiast. The Stadium was the site of the final bowling showdown scenes in the movie “Kingpin”. Ballooning is a popular sport in Reno, and the Great Balloon Race is held here every September. Recreational vehicles are also popular in the area, allowing people to explore northern Nevada.

Reno Outdoors

The Reno area has a variety of outdoor experiences for different outdoor tastes. There are many places to take a leisurely Sunday drive and take in the sights. There are places to walk along old wooden sidewalks in an original Comstock silver rush town. Wild horses roam in the hills and alpine lakes are abundant. There are fifteen ski resorts within an hour’s drive of Reno, and they offer something for the beginner and the advanced extreme thrill seeker. Reno’s parks give people the chance to walk next to a river or picnic with family and friends. Cyclists, divers, climbers, hikers, hunters, horseback riders, and fishermen will all find plenty to do in Northern Nevada.

Reno at Night

Nightlife is the name of the game in Reno. There are more nocturnal adventures to be had here than in most larger cities. Gaming is huge, from conventional reel slot machines to the new multi-coin, multi-game videos. Blackjack, poker, and keno slot machines are everywhere. Table games are also abundant, such as blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, baccarat, and pai gow. For those not in the mood for gambling, there are numerous showrooms that offer headliner celebrity entertainment, R&B sessions, golden oldie revues, rock concerts, country-western shows, and comedy. There is world-class dining and many hot nightclubs as well.

Are drugs and alcohol creating destruction in your life in Reno, NV.? Do you know of someone in Reno, NV. that is going down the dark path of drug or alcohol addiction? It is very easy for someone to fall into the trap of addiction, but an individual soon realizes that it is extremely difficult to kick an addiction. That is where an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehab Center in Reno comes in, to assist with the seemingly impossible task of treating individuals who have lost hope at ever being sober and happy again.

A Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility in Reno treats drug addiction and alcoholism by ingraining in an addict that drugs and alcohol are not the solution to their problems and difficulties in life. It teaches an addict that all of their problems have solutions, solutions that can be found through cognitive reasoning and common sense. An Alcohol Rehab or Drug Treatment Facility in Reno would put the individual in the frame of mind to overcome life's obstacles by confronting them head on, and obliterates the person's desire to use drugs as a way out.

There are many different types of in-patient and out-patient treatment programs available in Reno, NV., because each individual has different needs. Examples of programs available in Reno are Outpatient Rehabs, Short-term Addiction Recovery Facilities, Inpatient Addiction Recovery Centers, Long-term Addiction Recovery Centers, support group meetings, drug counseling, halfway houses and sober living.

Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers in Reno have a two-prong approach to treatment, both the physical and psychological causes and effects of drug and alcohol addiction. As the individual's brain adapts to the use of a psychoactive substance over time, the effect that the drug creates within the body is lessened. Due to this physical tolerance, more and more drugs or alcohol must be consumed to get high or even get a buzz.

The physical aspect of addiction is the first thing an addict will address when making the decision to seek treatment for addiction. A detoxification program in Reno, Nevada delivered by a qualified Drug Rehabilitation or Alcohol Rehab Facility will navigate the addict through the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that are caused by abruptly coming off of drugs or alcohol. These withdrawal symptoms can last for days, weeks or months; all depending on the drug of choice and individual circumstances. Heroin withdrawal for example will take a considerable amount of time to detox and is a highly painful and uncomfortable process. Detoxification and psychological counseling right from get-go will put the individual on the right path to address issues involved with drug and alcohol abuse. This gives the individual a better chance of having a lasting recovery and prevents relapse.

A Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Program in Reno, NV. takes the individual out of the environment which may have triggered their addiction, and offers an environment that will ensure a successful recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The individual will be given tools to better handle life situations and triggers which may have caused their drug use. When the individual completes treatment and does return home, he will do so with a new ability to handle triggers, which will no longer have an influence over him, his actions and behavior.

People who have abused drugs and alcohol shows changes in their brain. Research shows that these changes in the brain effect how an addict responds to situations. Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities are aware of this and know that an addict will need more than high hopes to beat addiction. This is yet another reason why professional treatment at an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehab Facility in Reno, NV. is so important.

There are a lot of reasons to seek treatment today, mainly because most people who try to kick the habit on their own will fail and just start using drugs or alcohol again. Tackling addiction and getting control of your life can be achieved by seeking treatment at an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Facility in Reno, NV. It doesn't have to be another failure, sobriety can be achieved with the right technology and the care and support of people who want to see you winning again. Don't think about it, do something about it and get your life or the life of someone you care about on the road to a sober and happy life today. Treatment can begin immediately by finding which option is best for you at one of the many Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Programs in Reno, NV.

Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Common street names for cocaine are Coke, Dust, Toot, Line, Nose Candy, Snow. Sneeze, Powder, Girl, White Pony, Flake, C, The Lady, Cain, Neurocain and Rock.

In 2008, 3.1 million teens aged 12 to 17 (12.7 percent) received treatment or counseling for problems with behavior or emotions in a specialty mental health setting (inpatient or outpatient care). Additionally, 11.8 percent of teens received services in an education setting, and 2.9 percent received mental health services in a general medical setting in the past 12 months. Mental health services were received in both a specialty setting and either an education or a general medical setting (i.e., care from multiple settings) by 5.3 percent of teens.

It is important to note that even moderate doses of Percocet have been known to result in a fatal drug overdose.

Near half of all drug related emergency room visits are due to cocaine abuse.

New Mexico had the highest percentage of persons aged 12 or older needing but not receiving treatment for an illegal drug use problem in 2002 (3.5 percent) (Table A.18). The other States in the top fifth were mainly in the West (Alaska, Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington) or in the Northeast (Rhode Island and Vermont). California had the largest total number of persons aged 12 or older needing but not receiving treatment for an illegal drug use problem, approximately 819,000, or about 13.0 percent of the total for the Nation (see http://www.oas.samhsa.gov/states.htm).

It appears that compulsive cocaine use may develop even more rapidly if the substance is smoked rather than snorted.
