The percentage of teens who reported that illegal drugs would be easy to obtain was associated with age, with perceived availability increasing with age. For example, in 2006, 20.7 percent of those aged 12 or 13 said it would be fairly or very easy to obtain marijuana compared with 52.9 percent of those aged 14 or 15 and 73.9 percent of those aged 16 or 17.
Of the 2.8 million teens who received outpatient specialty mental health services in the past 12 months, 18.3 percent reported having 1 visit, 15.8 percent reported having 2 visits, 29.1 percent reported having 3 to 6 visits, 25.1 percent reported having 7 to 24 visits, and 11.8 percent reported having 25 or more visits.
The rate of current hallucinogen use among teens aged 12 to 17 increased from 0.7 percent in 2007 to 1.0 percent in 2008.
Young adults aged 18 to 22 enrolled full time in college were more likely than their peers not enrolled full time (i.e., part-time college students and persons not currently enrolled in college) to use alcohol in the past month, binge drink, and drink heavily. The percentage of teens indicating a great risk in having four or five drinks nearly every day had been stable between 2002 and 2004, but rose from 61.8 percent in 2004 to 63.8 percent in 2005. Past month binge use of alcohol decreased among teens from 11.1 percent in 2004 to 9.9 percent in 2005, and heavy use remained unchanged, 2.7 percent in 2004 and 2.4 percent in 2005.
