Health care costs for employees with substance abuse problems generally will cost nearly twice as much as those of other sober employees.
Among teens aged 12 to 17, the past year prevalence of MDE ranged from 4.0 percent among 12 year olds to 11.1 percent among those aged 16 and 10.3 percent among those aged 17.
In 2005, rates of past year SPD were lowest among Asians at 7.2 percent. Rates for other racial/ethnic groups were 10.7 percent among blacks, 11.4 percent among whites, 11.7 percent among Hispanics, 16.8 percent among persons reporting two or more races, and 21.1 percent among American Indians or Alaska Natives.
