Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Crystal meth is usually smoked using glass pipes that are very similar to the pipes that are used to smoke crack cocaine.

Another important piece of information about drug abuse that many drug users apparently do not comprehend is that continuous, long-term drug abuse quite easily can become drug dependency.

From 2005 to 2006, the rate of past month nonmedical use of prescription-type psychotherapeutic drugs increased from 2.8 to 3.2 percent among boys aged 12 or older, mirroring an increase in the nonmedical use of pain relievers (from 2.1 to 2.5 percent). The rate of current heroin use also increased among boys (from 0.1 to 0.2 percent). There were no significant changes from 2005 to 2006 in the rate of past month drug use among girls aged 12 or older.

The rate of current illegal drug use in metropolitan areas was higher than the rate in nonmetropolitan areas in 2006. The rates were 8.7 percent in large metropolitan counties, 8.3 percent in small metropolitan counties, and 6.8 percent in nonmetropolitan counties as a group. Within nonmetropolitan areas, counties that were urbanized had a rate of 7.1 percent, less urbanized counties had a rate of 6.5 percent, while completely rural counties had a rate of 7.8 percent. The rates in 2005 were similar to those in 2006.

Driving while under the influence of Ambien is generally considered to be much more dangerous than the average drunk driver, due to the diminished motor controls and the possibility of delusions that may affect the user.

Estimates of past month use of any illegal drug ranged from a low of 6.1 percent in Iowa to a high of 12.4 percent in the District of Columbia for all persons aged 12 or older (Table A.1). As was indicated in Chapter 1, the 2002 model-based estimates are not comparable with estimates for 2001 and prior years owing to the new methodological improvements.
