The Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN), which is the government agency that monitors medications and illegal drugs that are reported in emergency departments across the U.S., recently reported that two of the most frequently reported prescription medications in drug abuse-related cases during 2009 were benzodiazepines, such as diazepam, alprazolam, and clonazepam, and opioid pain relievers which include oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, and methadone.
